Bennett Jones is a 96 year old resident at our Boardman skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.
Bennett started fishing with his daddy in 1927 when he was 5 years old. The first place he fished was Gilford Lake in Columbiana County Ohio but has fished most of the local lakes.
When he was enrolled in Youngstown College, he took his first ever Fishing Charter on Lake Erie. He loves being on the water, calling it exhilarating. He used to fish mostly at night with a family friend named “Big Jim.” They would fish all night with lanterns so they could see. He said it was peaceful on the lake.
Bennett has won an award for fishing. In 1957, he won the Outdoor Sportsman magazine award for the biggest bass caught in one of their contests. His bass was 6.5 lbs and was caught on Mosquito Lake. He won $50.00 and a lot of fishing supplies.
Shepherd of the Valley took Bennett to Jack’s Marina in Geneva, Ohio on June 20, 2018. Reels R Up chartered the boat he fished in and Captain Mike Turk was his guide. He hoped to catch a lot of walleye and was looking forward to being on the lake. Bennett had a successful day, catching more than 20 fish!
