Weekly Reflections from Pastor Barnes – 4/13/2018

Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.

Mark 6: 31

Six weeks and my gnarly toes will be wiggling in the warm sand of the Outer Banks. It’s a Barnes’ family tradition. One week together – Grandma and Grandpa, three children and their spouses, and eight grandchildren. Our beach house offers the perfect venue for fun in the sun. Wind and waves combine to help a body unwind. The old adage holds true: “All work and no play makes Donnie a dull boy.” How long has it been since you set everything aside and focused on renewal and rejuvenation? It’s important. According to Leonardo Da Vinci:

Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer since to remain constantly at work will cause you to lose the power of judgment. Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller, and more of it can be taken in at a glance, and lack of harmony or proportion is more readily seen.” These are the words of Leonardo da Vinci, and no idler he; he excelled as a painter, sculptor, poet, architect, engineer, city planner, scientist, inventor, anatomist, military genius, and philosopher.

See you at the beach!
